Sofia is the capital city of Bulgaria which was founded as historians say around 7000 years ago. This wonderful city is located at the foot of the green mountains Vitosha and Lyulin. And during the history Sofia had different names and peoples which occupied it. Sofia was founded by Thracians and was called Sardica, then in 500 BC tribe Odrysi came to rule over this city, but its rulership was not lasting and from 4th century BC city came under rulership of Philip Macedon and his famous son Alexander the Great. Then were Romans, Bulgarians, Turks and Russians. And Sofia has preserved many monuments and buildings of different epochs which attract many visitors each year. It is one of the symbols of Sofia and primary tourist attractions. It is considered as one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world. The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia can take 5,000 people inside, has 45 m high gold-plated dome, with the bell tower reaching 50.52 m. The total weight of temple’s 12 bells is around 23 tons. The interior is decorated with many luxurious materials such as Italian marble in various colours, Brazilian onyx and other.

This Roman rotunda dates back to the 4th century and is located in the courtyard of the Sheraton Sofia Hotel. It is considered the oldest building in Sofia and famous for its Medieval frescoes of 12-14th centuries.

The Ivan Vazov National Theatre is one of the important landmarks of Sofia. Also it plays the role of being Bulgaria's national theatre and the most authoritative theatre in the country. It is located in the centre of the city, with the facade facing the City Garden.
Among other places of interest are the Palace of Justice, Sts. Cyril and Methodius National Library, Sofia Zoological Garden, National Palace of Culture, Monument to the Tsar Liberator, St Nedelya Church, National Historical Museum, Borisova gradina, Vitosha mountain and many other sights and attractions.
